About L'Chaim Center

A warm, welcoming Jewish community in Deerfield, IL — where Torah learning, Shabbat celebration, and genuine connection come together on Chicago's North Shore.

No prior knowledge. No judgment. Ever.

Who We Are

More Than a Synagogue

L'Chaim Center is a Jewish community center in Deerfield, Illinois, serving families and individuals across Chicago's North Shore. We offer over 200 events a year — Torah classes, vibrant Shabbat mornings with a warm kiddush lunch, monthly Friday Night Live dinners, holiday celebrations, women's programs, men's events, and deep connections to the land and people of Israel.

Whether you grew up observant, haven't been to shul in decades, or are exploring Judaism for the first time — you belong here. We meet you exactly where you are.

Founded by Rabbi David and Ali Begoun, L'Chaim Center has grown from a small living-room class into a thriving community that draws hundreds of people each week. Today, under the leadership of Rabbi Gadi and Eve Levy, we continue that mission with fresh energy, intellectual depth, and the same open door.

What to Expect

Your Questions, Answered

Do I need to know anything about Judaism to come?

Not a thing. Most of our community members started right where you are. Our classes are designed for every level, and nobody will ever quiz you or put you on the spot.

What should I wear?

Come as you are. For Shabbat morning services, people tend to dress nicely (think business casual), but there's no dress code. Wear what makes you comfortable.

Can I bring my non-Jewish spouse or partner?

Absolutely. Your family is welcome at every event and meal. L'Chaim Center is about building connections, and that includes the people you love.

I haven't been to shul in 20 years. Will I feel out of place?

You'll fit right in. Many of our members say the same thing. We don't assume any background. Come for a Shabbat kiddush lunch — the food is great and the people are warm.

Is L'Chaim Center Orthodox?

Our teachings are rooted in authentic Torah tradition. We have a mechitzah during prayers. But our community includes Jews from every background and level of observance. The learning is deep, the atmosphere is warm, and everyone is welcome.

How much does it cost?

Shabbat services and kiddush lunch are always free. Individual classes are $25, or unlimited monthly classes for $100. VIP donors ($3,000+) get unlimited classes included. Friday Night Live dinners have a per-person charge. Your first class is on us — just show up.
